Wedding Shoes What to look for
By Ellese Chantel
Types of wedding shoes
With so many wedding shoes available this season it can be hard to know what style will suit you best. Along with this you must also choose a pair that suits the wedding theme as well.
Some important points to think about before going after a particular style of wedding shoes are your height and the height of your groom, what you are used to wearing, and comfort.
The key to choosing your shoe style would be to choose aspects that are familiar to you, if you only wear flats then don’t choose 4.5 inch heels on the day and vice versa. Also if your wedding is a traditional style wedding then don’t choose a wedge sandal or Swarovski crystal encrusted bling shoes.
Court shoe
The elegant and classical styling of the court shoe will fit any wedding theme. The full shoe is perfect for all weather and the heel heights vary so you have a good variety to choose from.
Most wedding shoe ranges carry a few styles of court shoes making them very popular. If you are looking for something a little more special take a look at the designer court shoes.
Cross over ankle strap
Glamour and star appeal combined in to one pair of shoes. These shoes come further up the ankle than normal shoes and have that extra strap that crosses over the ankle with a buckle fastening.
It is best not to choose this style unless you have very long slender legs or you have the height to carry them off, as the ankle strap makes your legs appear short than normal.
Peep toe
The cute and feminine peep toe design has seen its way from the high street stores to the bridal fashion industry. Now with its remodelled design and feminine details it has been a number one choice with this season’s bride.
Peep toe shoes tend to come in very high heel heights unless you are used to walking and standing in heels this high it might not be the ideal choice for you.
Two-piece
This style of shoe can appear very traditional with a modern edge but can very quickly look old fashioned. When choosing these styles of wedding shoes you need to get the mix of modern detailing just right.
The more sensible heel heights can be attractive but consider styles with more up to date design work for example: Swarovski crystals instead of pearls and a jewelled buckle instead of a plain sliver one.
Open waisted court shoe
These shoes have the classical look of the traditional wedding shoe with an appealing cut out design where just the one side of the waist has been cut away. This modern edge look has updated the shoe and has added that all important glamour.
The heel heights of these shoes are the same as the court shoe and so give the bride plenty of choice. A plus is that the heel height doesn’t have to be as high because the extra details make the shoe more elegant.
Pump
This style of wedding shoe is sophisticated and comfortable making it perfect for the taller brides and the brides that wear flat shoes everyday. The pumps are now being designed with more feminine styling so the bride doesn’t have to compromise on details.
The cut of this style also makes the shoes wider so you don’t have to push your feet into slim fitting shoes for the big day. A comfortable bride is a happy bride and it is worth thinking about this before ordering your 4 inch heels.
Sling back
The fashion statement for this season but are they practical? This style of shoe normally comes with a very pointy toe and a strap that buckles up behind your ankle.
The sling back wedding shoe is dreamy and continues to be a favourite in bridal fashion but it is recommended to practice walking in these shoes and to make sure you have the buckle set right. The hardest thing to do in a wedding dress is to keep adjusting your ankle straps because they are slipping or cutting in to your ankle.
